Michael J. Cohen, Ph.D, Ed.D.


Dr. Cohen is founder and Executive Director of Project NatureConnect, a home study program of The Institute of Global Education. In 2007 he celebrated his 60th year as an outdoor educator, counselor and traditional folk singer, musician and dancer. He uses his science, education, counseling and musical expertise to catalyze responsible, enjoyable relationships with nature. Dr. Cohen mentors students from many different colleges and founded revolutionary outdoor programs at the National Audubon Society, Lesley University (Audubon Expedition Institute) and summer camps. He completed 103 units of graduate work in natural science, guidance and counseling from Columbia University Teachers College, where he also earned his M.A. in Natural Science Education. He received his Ed.D. in Environmental Psychology from Clayton University and Ph.D. from Akamai University. In 1985 he was identified as a "
maverick genius" for his education and counseling programs based on Planet Earth acting like a living organism.

Mike serves on the faculty of several universities, is the author of numerous nature education articles, books and other publications and the recipient of several awards in his field. His training manual Well Mind, Well Earth: 107 Environmentally Sensitive Activities for Stress Management, Spirit and Self-Esteem includes The Field Guide to Connection With Nature, the recipient of a 1990 NAI award for excellence in interpretation. It is noted in Vice President Albert Gore's book Earth in Balance. He conceived the 1985 National Audubon Society Gaia conference "Is the Earth a Living Organism." His latest books are Reconnecting With Nature: finding wellness through restoring your bond with the Earth (Ecopress), Einstein's World, 
The Web of Life Imperative (Trafford) and Educating, Counseling and Healing With Nature.
