Reported Experiences (continued):

Last night while camping, I sprawled out under an endless blanket of  stars, at the base of a comforting pine tree.  The lush grass cradled me and the warm wind teased at my hair.  There were so many attractions that took place.  It seems that every time  that I take the time to sit down and be at peace with my surroundings, I discover new webstrings within myself and with nature.  It seems that I have never felt the breeze blow just that way, or seen such an encompassing wall of stars, or been so comforted by a tree.
Even though it's not, it always seems so new.

The idea of wearing the button around is fascinating.  This is such an unusual piece that people are sure to ask about it.  When asked, there is a connection between two people that were strangers moments before.  Maybe this is another webstring, interspecies.  Wearing the button also keeps your mind on the subject matter that it carries.  You're constantly thinking, no matter how briefly, about the content of this course, thereby making more nurturing webstring connections throughout the day.

^^^

I have been thinking about where my mind goes when its empty. Like when I go for walks each day or when I meditate. This activity fit right into my notion that I can bring my attention to something outside myself that is positive/helpful/connective. And that when I do this, the other thoughts that arise are different somehow. The main thing I can relate this to is the meditation instruction "bring your attention to the breath" and when I'm distracted, which always happens to everyone, the instruction is to "return your attention to the breath". This morning I went to the creek on the ranch and touched the water to my face, as I often have before. Because this activity was on my mind and I was wearing the little button, this scene returned to my mind again and again today. I liked that; it was a great improvement over where my mind can go when its unfocused and I'm undisciplined. When I drew the water and a plant and imagined the puppy I got tonight inside my head I had to smile. When these natural things are inside my head instead of concepts and plans, I feel more alive. I feel more capable of following the path.

^^^

I have to say that I struggled with the beginning of this activity because I thought I just wasn't getting it when looking at the image of the pin. But then I decided that was the part of me seeking to be okay with myself; that side of me seeking approval and taking for granted my own common sense. Well today, I am reclaiming that side of me that knows that I make sense and don't need anybody's validation for what I do in MY Life.

Looking at this button, I don't see what everybody else sees. I distinctively see a person carrying a heavy bird on its back one way and I see a large black bird appearing to wrap its wings around the person carrying the large white bird on its back(when you look at the image in the Word Doc). Maybe it's me, but it seems to me that this pin is conveying support, protection of that support, and an all around connectivity. I tried seeing it the other way (the manner in which one believes you could have children with this person, but I don't see it that way unless I'm thinking in a froggy manner and our minds can take us to really weird places when we are thinking in that manner; at least mine does.

I haven't worn the pin for three days, but I did notice something in the fact that the pin definitely gets attention. I was sent this pin before with the Reconnecting With Nature book. My son loves looking at that pin. He kept taking the pin away from my desk and playing with it. He likes pointing out different things in the pin and gets mad when I take it away. One day, as I was cleaning up his toys, I notice that he had placed the pin in the drivers seat of one of his toy cars. I laughed at how odd it looked and how smart my child was, then I put the pin on the table. He hadn't noticed that I had done that until my sister had come over later that day. She was sitting at my table and noticed the pin. She picked up the pin and said, "What's this?" I told her I had received it on my book from school, that it was the symbol of this program, but didn't know its validity as of yet. She kept turning the pin around and around (sort of like my lil boy does) and saying, "I can see different things here." My son saw and heard her and came up to her saying, "Aunt Lesy, that's MY pin!" She looked at him and laughed and said, "Well, it's mine now!" and I almost fell out as my little boy looked at her as if to say, "You wanna bet?" She looked at his face and looked at me laughed saying, "OOOOOOOooooo, look at how he's looking at me; like I took away his best friend!" She went to give him the pin and I stopped her, taking it. I turned to my little boy and said, "Mom needs that for school, k?" He looked at me like I was crazy and later when I wasn't looking he had taken the pin and stashed it in his little crayon carry all. Slick Lil Boy!

I thought it may be the colors, until I saw the little bird being carried on the back of the thin man. I think my boy likes the little baby bird. He does like baby anything. He folds his blanket from time to time and says, "Aww·.look at the baby duck!" His favorite book at this time is entitled The Magic String.

This book is about a little duck that can't swim. He has three other brothers and sisters that can swim, but this duck is convinced that he can't do it. This book is very significant for my son at this time because I have been teaching him how he needs to ask for help instead of whining if he encounters something he believes he can't do. On one of his favorite pages in the book, the duck starts to drown as he believes he can't swim. My son looks at the duck and points to it frequently saying, "Look Mom, he drowns!" He's seems to be fascinated that the duck is drowning and loves it when the mother ties a string around the duck's neck and tells the duck the string is Magic and will keep him from floating. The duck practices the moves his mother taught him to swim and appears to be swimming when he believes the string is on him. He believes that the string is making him swim.

I think that is why my son likes the pin. He sees the little bird being protected; being carried on someone's back. But I also believe he sees the Black bird on the outskirts of the pin; protecting both the thin lil black man and the larger white bird. I say this because he always puts items that appear to have control in the drivers seats of his lil cars; like they will be doing the driving, they will be controlling the car and he knows it. He's put some futon mattress fill and lotion in the passenger's seat and the backseats of the car (lol·the rest of us are just fluff and ooze?) and he's put items such as a raisin in the driver's seat (we know that raisins are tough skin that are transformed from liquid grapes), nails if he ever gets his hands on any (nails are strong), he's put in paper clips (they are flexible), and now the pin (which to him, seems like a protector). I should also note that when he plays with his cars, he lines them up perfectly right next to each other along an edge (like the wall or tables edge) WHEREVER we are at; almost like you'd imagine cars in a parking lot or at a drive in theatre.

As someone who has studied psychology and as someone who understands children's development, I can't ignore this act of play that he's been engaged in with his cars. Especially when I have watched some very telling experiences he has had since his birth; like he's conveying something from beyond. I've always believed this about my son, even when I was pregnant; it's like he's come from some place before he was in the womb and he knows it and he's trying to see if I will figure it out as well. I know that sounds freaky to some of you all, but I have learned that not everything can be explained and I have learned to have sense enough to realize that there are some things we have yet to discover or that there are some things that we have discovered, but have just forgotten. Maybe that's why he is really fascinated with that Pin!

"Human behavior is rooted most deeply in nature's intentions and desire. The rhythms of nature underlie all of human interaction: religious traditions, economic systems, cultural and political organization. When these human forms betray the natural psychic pulse, people and societies get sick, nature is exploited and entire species are threatened."

-Stephen Aizenstat

In industrial society our excessively nature-separated lives mold us to betray the natural psychic pulse. We learn to block from our thinking over 98 percent of the wise sensory callings and fulfillments we normally share with natural systems and their eons of experience. Our subconscious hurt and frustration from the severed disconnection of these senses underlies our greatest troubles.
