NOTE:

This page offers valuable rewards to individuals who recognize four basics of Organic Psychology:

1. We are part of nature and it sustains the global life community without producing our garbage, disorders or abusiveness.

2. Natural systems pervade nature and are self-correcting. They recycle, purify and nurture wherever they flow.

3. We excessively suffer our disorders because we don't connect with nature's grace, balance and restorative powers to help us remedy our troubles.

4. We spend, on average, 98 percent of our life indoors, separated from nature. To our loss, our thinking and feeling are extremely disconnected from nature's healing ways.

THE NATURAL EVOLUTION OF LEARNING TO LEARN AND TO TEACH THIS SKILL TO OTHERS.

An Organic Psychology Report from an Online Course Participant

The first thing that came to my mind from this Organic Psychology nature activity is that I am that animal that is not evolving in cooperative consensus with my surroundings. I have lost my roots, my connection to what sustains me. I go about chaotically because I have forgotten how to connect; I just don't know how to connect. Sometimes I feel like I connect, but a lot of the time I feel like I am only making up a story about my connection. I am a foreign species; I am lost in my own ground and my own mind, I am suffering from a psychosis, I am fragmented and dissociated. I have forgotten how to fit in.

I fit in the human world: I know my Spanish, I know my computer and technology skills, I know my social norms. However, I am clueless as to how to live in harmony with nature; I would not last a season in the wilderness; I am not acquainted with nature that much. I do not know how to interpret the messages from nature. A lot of times I don't even know how to interpret the messages of my own body, emotions and sensations. I have gone astray at home; I am working on recovering some sense of direction, some of that connection with nature, others and myself. I know it is possible, I have seen other people do it; indigenous peoples understand the messages from nature much better than I do. I want to learn and then help others learn too.

I take this walk in nature. I am feeling anxious and tense today. However, as I walk for a few minutes I start feeling relaxed. My worries vanish from the foreground of my consciousness. I am still thinking about them, but I don't feel smothered by them. I am really thankful for this experience. I feel I can catch a breath from the stresses of my job, of carrying the emotional weight of struggling adolescents. I think about the concept of home, home for me is that place or moment in which we feel at ease, it is our comfort zone, where our needs are met: safety, emotional nurturing, etc. When a place meets those needs for me, then I believe that is my home, wherever it is. When I feel I am in touch with myself well enough so much that I am understanding and working towards the satisfaction of my needs, I feel I am at home with myself. A lot of times I feel at home in nature; I feel nurtured, relaxed, I feel alive and well. I guess I don't know as much about living "sustainably" with nature and myself, but nature does know how to do that, and will provide me with it, if I stay open to it.

I become friends with an ant that walking on my bed. It is exploring everything on my bed, at some point it also walks on me and explores me too. I look at it and make an effort to experience how the ant experiences. As this ant I am quite aware of what is going on, I attend to what my sensing devices tell me. I am exploring to find attractive food; I am not really thinking, I am only exploring, aware of my attractions because those lead me to the satisfaction of my needs.

I am not sure what this ant wants to teach me, perhaps to follow my attractions. There is a part of me that wants to remain the same entity, however, change is inevitable; I need both, to change and to remain the same entity.

There is no part, present or future; there is now. Everything I do I can only do now; I can only plan or learn form experience now. There is no other moment; I can only experience now. My life is what it is, I don't think whether it is stressful or not, no questions like this one are part of it. I have a desire to be, it is wired within me; I just want to be and that is why I do what I do. That is my raison d'etre. To be able to be content I would have to be able to know that I am content, to be able to know that I am content I would have to identify myself as a separate entity, but this is not the case. Humans may see me and judge me as a content being, or perhaps as a miserable one
to judge myself or anything else as content or not is not something I do.

This activity has helped me discover that I want to learn how to interpret nature, within and without, I want to learn how I can connect with it, and then help others learn too. Nature can make me feel at home, it has the capacity to sustain me. I, on the other hand, am not so good at doing the same. I am a person who gets good feelings from relaxing with nature, from my desire to learn how to connect and from being an ant.

"Human behavior is rooted most deeply in nature's intentions and desire. The rhythms of nature underlie all of human interaction: religious traditions, economic systems, cultural and political organization. When these human forms betray the natural psychic pulse, people and societies get sick, nature is exploited and entire species are threatened."

-Stephen Aizenstat

In industrial society our excessively nature-separated lives mold us to betray the natural psychic pulse. We learn to block from our thinking over 98 percent of the wise sensory callings and fulfillments we normally receive from natural systems and their eons of experience. Our subconscious hurt and frustration from the severed disconnection of these senses underlies our greatest troubles.

-Michael J. Cohen
