You-Tube Video Interviews and Announcements

Eight or more 2-8 minute, heart-felt, educating, counseling and healing with nature interviews and announcements are now available on You Tube. They help those of us who appreciate nature learn how to protect its and our integrity as it flows in, through and around us.

In the one commercial video of the collection, a female announcer in a natural setting reads  information about the program, information that is found in the Program Description and Summary, above.  A short, less formal clip from a longer video about Dr. Cohen and the program is included in the You Tube video.  The longer video, entitled Naturally Attracted: Connecting with Michael J. Cohen is also available on the Internet.

Project NatureConnect is top rated on the Internet search engines, usually organically placed on the first page of most of them.  This is due to the special Applied Ecopsychology topics and quality of its online Journal of Organic Psychology and Natural Attraction Ecology which mirrors the entire program and website.

Below is an essay from the field study journal of an anonymous participant in Project NatureConnect's online NAE courses and degree programs.  These are sponsored in part by Akamai University's Institute of Applied Ecopsychology, Portland State University Extended Education courses, and the Institute of Global Education. The student is learning how to apply and teach the alternative integral ecology of educating, counseling and healing with nature.

Taken for Granted: Regeneration, Growth, Birth and Renewal

     - Anonymous Student Field Journal Report.

I was just called upstairs to the bathroom where my daughter was in the hot bath, as she had something "important" to discuss with me.

She started off by telling me off for hurting her feelings the other day when I had apparently laughed when she said she believed in some of the Roman gods. I said I was truly sorry and asked which ones she believed in and she said, "the female ones".

She then started getting very emotional and for a moment it was as if her name sake was speaking through her. She told me that she wanted to be free, to climb out of the window like Pom Pom and see mountains and wildness (as she called it). She wanted to feel like an animal "which I am", she said. She said she wanted to "go home", to see wild boar and squirrels running wild, like in "Tenji's house". Tenji was her best friend in Italy, the son of great friends of ours who had a house in the countryside, surrounded by olive groves, grape vines, fig trees and a forest where they could go on adventures, and dip their feet in a stream. She said she was fed up of the flatness, the houses, after houses, after houses, the cafes, the museums. She wanted to "go back to nature" and go home.

I told her that was exactly why I do what I do, why I'm becoming an ecopsychologist and why I believe so strongly with her... but it was hard to make her see it.

I wanted to share it with you, as gobsmacked as I am, as I do think this proves once again that children cannot be convinced. They just learn to hide their feelings. And eventually they grow up like us, and the layers of hiding get so thick they forget what those feelings once were. Man, I don't want that to happen to her. She's not happy. She was actually crying, even though I was trying to "convince" her that we're only here temporarily, and "but you love your school?"... as if that matters more.... the words of a fool who herself knows better herself!

"I'd read the chapter earlier and was waiting for the right opportunity to present itself to do the exercise. As my ex-partner's family were watching motorcycles on a dirt track I could feel the wind chilling me as I stood there and interpreted this as a call to connect with nature. I left people behind and walked along the road. An entrance to a small wooded area caught my attention and after asking permission I entered. My request was answered by feeling more energized. I asked both questions "Who are you and who am I without a name?"  as I explored this area, noticing particularly the disturbance left behind by horses with droppings on the group and the bark of trees distorted. The answer to both was clear. I am you and you are me. We are one. We are alive. We are life. I felt such a connection to the area and as I lifted my head I watched the tree branches wave in the wind and wanted to feel this. I left the wooded area and returned to the road and started jogging. I was an expression of joy and with every movement of my body I could feel our energy building within. The feeling of coldness I'd had earlier disappeared and the wind became attractive and loving instead of cold and harsh.  I was totally present in the moment with my senses of movement, gravity, temperature, pressure, color and sound strongly activated.

“The most trustable truth in our lives is our immediate experience” - I let my immediate experience guide my into the right time to do this exercise.

“Life only exists in the present. All else is images, labels, and stories” - My experience reinforced this. Even as I type I am conscious that I exist only in this moment where my attention is on what I am writing, how I am sitting and the environment around me. What I am writing about is a story albeit a nature-connected one.

“Nature can teach us that love for it is the key to our happiness” - When I was running I was connected to nature and in love with it. It was a moment of perfect happiness.

In contact with nature I instinctively know what to do to improve my present moment The idea that I am separate from nature is an illusion based on nature-conquering stories. Acknowledgment and use of all my senses enhances the present moment
My body knows how to use and understand nature to fulfill its attractions.  I am continually in a dance with nature. It is up to me whether I choose to see it. Connecting with Nature lets false stories fade into the distance
If this experience was taken away from me I would feel dis-empowered and de-motivated. However, I have the memory of this experience to sustain me and to tap into. Although it is not the same it serves as an inner calling to reconnect with nature.
This activity enhances my sense of self-worth. Nature loved me enough to show me a way to heat my body and become more comfortable in her presence. She allowed me to feel her power and acknowledge it as my own. I am realizing that my true power lies in my ability to connect with my 53 senses to the present moment. From here, anything is possible.

This activity has re-educated and re-enforced that my body in connection with nature knows exactly what is best for it. It is its own best mentor and healer. It has confirmed a 4 legged feeling that I've had this week and re-educated the person inside who has been worn down by nature-conquered stories of human manipulation of health.

How might this activity be used to enhance my practice of coaching in grief and loss?

This activity could be used as a way of identifying self after loss. Who we are is challenged by loss and this activity would provide a means to help individuals reconnect with themselves, see themselves in a different light and start the process of transforming grief and loss. By then asking clients to email experiences I can then use my own 9-legged thinking to ask powerful questions about their experience and how it relates to their loss deepening their experience.

What other thoughts, feelings and experiences come to mind about the application of NSTP to my chosen area of interest?
With NSTP as the core practice in using nature to transform loss, we can experience transformation far quicker due to the 9-legged communication process.

"Human behavior is rooted most deeply in nature's intentions and desire. The rhythms of nature underlie all of human interaction: religious traditions, economic systems, cultural and political organization. When these human forms betray the natural psychic pulse, people and societies get sick, nature is exploited and entire species are threatened."

-Stephen Aizenstat

In industrial society our excessively nature-separated lives mold us to betray the natural psychic pulse. We learn to block from our thinking over 98 percent of the wise sensory callings and fulfillments we normally share with natural systems and their eons of experience. Our subconscious hurt and frustration from the severed disconnection of these senses underlies our greatest troubles.

-Michael J. Cohen

Benefit from learning to enhance the natural psychic pulse within and around us. Add the sensory ecoscience of Organic Psychology to your life and livelihood.
